Better than a youth hostel ! We had a « big » double room booked, so I can’t really talk for the other room configurations. This is a « you get what you pay for » hotel. The location is great, the price is good for London, and we didn’t have any major issues with cleanliness. The real shame is that it could easily have earned 4 or 5 stars for me with a couple minor adjustments. The mattress was awful. I felt every single spring jam into my back every time I moved. There’s no way to open the windows, which was tolerable in October but I can’t imagine what it was like during this summer’s heatwave. Simple things like a box of paper tissues, a fridge or a safe would have been appreciated. And the rooms are far from soundproof: we could easily hear people talking and coming and coming in their rooms. The pros: location. Friendly staff. I actually liked our avocado bathroom and the shower was good. Kettle and tea in the bedroom. Can’t comment on the breakfast, as we didn’t opt for it. Not sure if I’d stay here again. We did end up saving a couple of bucks, but a comfortable bed would’ve been worth the expense.
This a very old hotel not any renovation done, the rooms are average some smaller hard to move around than others. the staff was helpful but I saw mice in the dinning room area. I mentioned to the reception they knew about it. Place that serves food(breakfast) that is not acceptable for me. Location is good close to the centre across from Hyde park.
The place is very nicely located and the staff are very friendly and helpful, but the facilities should really improve given the rates that they offer. The concierge is stylish and embraces a modern look inside a classic regency style building, but the rest of the hotel has, in general, old and relatively unkempt facilities. The rooms and the hallways are very creaky and the construction shows evident signs of aging. The bathrooms look like they were pulled straight from Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining”, minus a deranged Jack Nicholson axing his way through the doors and all that creepy stuff. Overall, an okay place which necessitates urgent improvements to keep it up to date with the city and with modern times.
This hotel used to have some charme. However, this is now most probably the worst place I stayed in any city for a long time. The lift is out of order for months. Now you need to used another lift which was probably used only by the staff before. The lift is extremely small and dirty, slow and looks unsafe. Even if they tried to renew the lobby, the rooms are old, badly clean and you can hear your neighbours breathing. I asked the gentleman at the reception why the lift issue wasn’t mentioned when booking and he looked incredibly annoyed. He never spoke to us since then. I wouldn’t recommend to book this hotel. You can find other place with better locations, nicer rooms and cheaper.
